Animal Based Charities and Cat Crusaders teamed up for
the 2nd Annual DOGTOBERFEST.
Saturday October 29th, 2011 from 10 am to 2 pm
Center Court of Wiregrass Mall, Wesley Chapel FL.

The DOGTOBERFEST, in Wesley Chapel, was a huge success. WIREGRASS MALL was beautiful, and we had plenty of room. We were worried in the morning, because of the rain, but it eventually cleared up. The dog and people costumes were awesome. We dressed Sunni as a Ladybug, but Charlee refused to be the prison guy. So, we used Jackson instead. They each got a medal for their participation.

I want to thank all the volunteers who came. Christine and Doug, Julie and Rich, (thanks to them we had a second tent after all. Mine was missing the top... Never let a relative borrow anything. Sigh!) Holly brought Lollie to meet everyone. Then we had Don Grinde and Tootie come. Don did a great job, telling her story and all about our rescue. Then there was that awesome Melanie and her bake sale. We sold Eyeball cupcakes, Monster cookies that were 2 chocolate chip cookies with an Oreo in between. She also made Pumpkin Muffins, Bat cookies and triple chocolate cappuccino brownies and one lady came back several times to buy them. We had three raffle baskets and they were adopted.

Susan Robie came to meet Sunni (YuKu). She couldn't leave without her, so we completed the adoption, and she is in her happy home. I can't forget my best help ever, Papa Dave and Becky. We got lots of kids hyped up on Halloween candy. I had so much fun doing that, Of course I was pretty awesome too. I got to meet little Ethan (Julie and Rich's Big sister/big brother, little boy, and Melanie's baby). Both were so cute. There were several people who came to tell us their story. Charlee was a big hit. A young man came and was very interested in that little whipper snapper. Keep your fingers crossed. We also got some great donations. YIPPEE!!!! All in all it was a great day.

Saturday, October 22, 2011

Loch Haven Park in Orlando was the setting for Veg Fest 2011. Pat & Sharon set up shop in the Animal Haven and our first visitors were Mandy & Anne plus our 2012 calendar contest winner, Miz Dolly. This cream beauty showed off her stuff as she walked around and checked out the vendors. Then the crew arrived with Frank & Tom bringing Truffles & Aspen and Trish brought her pei-beis Amber & Scarlette. Candace also arrived with adorable little Sassy. The day turned out gorgeous and lots of people came through many seeing a Shar-Pei for the first time. Thank you everyone for your help at this event.

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE DOGS - DOG DAYS OF SUMMER

Saturday, September 17, 2011  -  9AM to 4PM
Florida State Fairgrounds, Tampa, FL

This event was a resounding success We had our motley crew of Dave, Sue, Julie, Rich, Jackie, Linda, Holly and Vicki. And we can't forget our precious secret weapons Emy, Dane and Becky. They are our official sales personnel.

People could not resist their sweet faces and great sales pitch. We saw old friends and made some new ones, including some who want to volunteer. There was an awesome turnout of Shar-pei as well. Besides our boys, Gus Gus, Freddie and Charlie, Melanie came with their precious girl pei. J.J. and Sugar Bear were there with Mom and dad. We saw the family that had Porthos, and another sweet pup. Many are on our calendar contest. There were many people who came and told us of their Shar-Pei. The people were here that brought the dogs from Afghanistan. It was a great story about them.

Charlie and Dane won the hula hoop contest. They were great together and the kids took him in the ring for the meet the breed entry. We really had a fun time, as you can see from our photos. Can't wait for the next one. Thank you all so very much for your participation. Florida Sharpei Rescue loves you all.

DOG DAZE DOO-DAH! ALL-SPECIES Pet Event

Saturday, August 27, 2011  -  1PM to 4PM
4941 4th Street in beautiful Zephyr Park in Zephyrhills, FL

It was set-up time and the Florida weather tried to put a damper on the event by dropping a huge thunderstorm on the area. But Sue & Dave waited it out and then were able to get inside and be ready with plenty of time for the spectators to arrive. Charlie & Amos were there as the host dogs. Julie & Rich brought our newest foster pei-bei, Faith, who won the heart of a family who will be adopting her once she is medically cleared. Jackie came as well as, Pat & Alex, who brought the test Contest Calendar for the rescue group to review. We thank the Going Postal people for the invite and for making sure we were out of the rain and the heat.

"The HOP" Help Our Pets

Adopt-a-thon and Egg Hunt - Saturday April 23, 2011
Hillsborough County Animal Services - Tampa, FL

We had a great time at this event. The Easter bunny was there, as well as the Easter dog and cat. The dogs had a great deal of exposure. Little Savannah was a big hit. She ate it up too. Her nose got out of joint a bit when Maizey and Sheba showed up. She didn't want them in her space. Aunt Jackie brought the kids sidewalk chalk and they had fun with that. We were under a big shade tree, so it was a nice day. Thanks to Dave and son Robert for putting up our new tents. The volunteers at Hillsborough Animal Control were awesome. Our juniors, Becky, Stephanie, Dane and Emy were a great help as well. The kids got to participate in an Easter egg hunt, and when our younger kids didn't get any eggs, the older kids gave them some of theirs. We have a great bunch, young and old, in our rescue. Julie and Rich came and helped us a lot. Jimmy and Gye Gye stopped by, with Maizey. They have done a wonderful job with this little girl. It was a long day, but a good day. Thanks everyone for coming and supporting our cause. Let's get ready for the next one.

South Florida Pet Expo - March 26, 2011

Fairgrounds - West Palm Beach, FL

Pet Expo 2011 in the Palm Beaches was huge! I think at least 8 – 10,0000 people walked through. We had the best booth there and received lots of complements on it. Our volunteers, Peggy and Scott Heald, set up the beautiful display of our dogs and brought their FSPR adopted mini pei, Khloey, who could have been adopted again dozens of times. She is a little doll. Candace got there with her FSPR adopted pei, Mystique and brought her foster Myla . She also brought a huge basket of people cookies to sell and we sold out before the end of the show. Lou & Pat worked the tables and the crowd and we even had a showing from long time pei friend, Trish Miller. Later in the day, Amy & Jeff showed up with their pei-boy and a couple of Ginger’s puppies who were going to new homes. We had plenty of wrinkles there and met vendors, other rescues, and had lots of wrinkle lovers stop by to check us out. The sponsors of the show were very diligent and helpful and we really appreciated their attention. All in all, it was a huge success and we had a great time.

South Florida Pet Expo 2011 - West Palm Beach, FL

Nassau County Animal Expo - March 19, 2011

Fernandina Beach, FL

We had a great event as we had seven Pei attending and as many volunteers. We were without a doubt the biggest drawing card there. At one time we had five or six Pei lounging around after a busy day and had three or four kids right in the middle. It looked like story time at a day care center. Many really good questions about the breed. The Hill family from Beverly Hills drove all the way over and spent several hours with Sugar a new rescue Pei. They just loved her and are waiting for her eye surgery to take her home. We have an application from the Dean family for Sawyer. Sandy and her two children drove over to talk to us and see the Pei at the event. They really seem like good candidates so keep your paws crossed.

It was also a great turnout for FSPR. We had Jan with Deery and Sugar, Kathy And Aryn with Bella(what a beauty) and Squirt. Leigh, Dr. sitting The Barney Barn, and you know that Maxwell and Brewer were there. I think with the number of kids around inter-acting with the Pei really showed how kid friendly they are. Charles and the new girl from Alabama were able to be there for the end of the event and she was able to meet her cousins. She is a pretty little Pei and very friendly in spite of the long ride and all of the excitement when she arrived. Amber (Jan's daughter) filled out an application to foster. She was also there with her kids most of the day so we were able to staff the booth and circulate through the crowd both inside and outside.

I talked to one of the ladies involved in setting up this event and planted the seed to possible do another event in western Nassau county in the future. Thanks to all for a great event. Jimi

Dog Lovers Day - March 12, 2011

Adventure Landing - Jacksonville Beach, FL

Adventure landing was a real Pei Gathering. Brewer and Sawyer were at this event greeting anyone and everyone. Both fabulous Pei Ambassadors. Sawyer had his eyes out for any of the smaller two legged people. This dog is drawn to children like a magnet. Derry was the baby at this event. Such a sweetheart! Maggie left for her new forever home from the event. Leaving one devoted, extra-special foster mother broken-hearted and one forever family delighted with their new family member. Leigh was there and made friends with one extra large 125 pound golden retriever. There were Pei and Pei loving volunteers and Pei Foster Parents at this event. Leigh and Jimi were both quick to work the crowd that stopped by to see the Pei. These two can talk Pei! Jimi and Linda did a great job getting this event arranged and the tent all decked out in Pei paraphernalia. An extra shout out to these two volunteers for putting this event together.

Pet Pages 1st Annual Celebration of Pets

February 26, 2011 - Sarasota Fairgrounds, Sarasota, FL

This was our first event of 2011. Pet Pages hosted the Celebration of Pets at the Sarasota Fairgrounds. We had Bizzie, Buttercup, Abby & Pancho showing off their wrinkles. Volunteers attending were Sue & Dave, Paula, Pat & Alex, Michelle, Julie & Rich and our Sarasota volunteer Terri was manning her own Pet Sitting vendor booth. It was a huge event with rows and rows of vendors and rescues and they also had agility contests & dock diving events. Our booth attracted lots of interest in the wrinklies.

Tampa Fall Adoption Expo - Tampa, FL - 11/13/10

Special Events Center - Florida State Fairgrounds

Over 1,000 people came to the Tampa event due to the generous donation by Subaru who provided free admission and parking. Great weather prevailed and over 500 hundred dogs found new home. We had quite a few pei lovers come by to meet us and the dogs. It appears we will have 4 adoptions as a result of the event and we are keeping our paws crossed they all will work out.

The volunteers who came out brought so much to the table. Kathy brought her beautiful jewelry to sell. Mandy brought glow in the dark collars. Jeanette brought home made Christmas dog stockings. Pat brought 2 raffle totes. Jackie debuted our new 2011 Rescued Shar-Pei calendars and had t-shirts, magnets, wristbands and more to sell. Helping Sue and Dave set up was Christine and supervising was Scallywag with daddy Chris. Ebbon stopped by for awhile with mom Linda. We finally got to meet our newest volunteer Terri from Sarasota. The host of the event who captained the table was our webgod, Alex. We were visited by FSPR adopters Candy Jones of Key West and the Hunt family of Tampa, The Fougerousee family of Odessa came by to see about a new pei addition. We want to thank Corey & the crew at TampaPets!org for inviting us to another successful event.

The real stars of the show however were our great volunteers who Walked and Talked Pei. Everyone was very involved and contributed to making this event a huge success. Thank You everyone for your time and effort and for all the extra efforts that you give to our rescue.

"North Florida Veg Fest" - Jacksonville, FL - 11/06/10

Good news... the VegFest was a huge success. It was very well attended by every vegetarian and vegan in Jacksonville. I will bet that Maxwell was petted at least 500 times. He was a huge hit and handled himself well. He tired out about 3:00PM and finally layed down for a nap. He woke up in time to finish the event, snoozed most of the way home, ate dinner, and snored for the rest of the night. I think he was very happy for the time change as it gave him an extra hour.

We had a great amount of interest in both adopting and fostering. I think that three or four people came back on several occassions to discuss fostering. No doubt we could have sent Maxwell home with several people. It was a very knowledgable group and most who approached had knowledge of or had owned a Pei. The fact that he is a flower added to the attraction no doubt. We did have camera errors but managed to take some good pics of Maxwell.

"Dog Days In The Park" - Jacksonville, FL - 09/25/10

Dog Days in the Park in Jacksonville gave Cody and Stretch the opportunity to show off their good nature. Both dogs were absolutely delightful with the crowds of people and proved to be a favorite with children at the event. Both Pei were calm, well behaved, friendly perfect Shar Pei ambassadors. The Pei didn't worry about the costumed people or the mounted police. The cats across the way didn't get their attention. I do think they may have thought the Bassets next door were odd looking.

Many people stopped by and visited the booth. We can only hope that someone that stopped by will become the lucky forever family for one of these great dogs.

Thanks to Jimi, Linda and Geri for working together to make this another successful Pei-vent.

"USF Sun Dome Fall Adopt-A-Thon" - Tampa, FL - 09/25/10

We had a great time at the Sundome adoptathon. Thanks to everyone who came to support us. Poor Dave was not feeling well, so we stuck him in the x-pen, with the dogs... lol. Christine, as always was there to help set things up, Daria and her grand children Adriana and Eric, also came and helped us. Jackie did the 50/50 raffles and had lots of help from Becky, Emy, Dane, Adriana and Eric. Jackie said she couldn't sell even one ticket, but the kids were hot. They worked their little butts off and did a super job. Thanks to our juniors. You guys are wonderful, and don't forget to come back in November. You are our secret weapon.

The new magnets were a hit, as well as Wendy's candles. I fell in love with the Vanilla cupcake and Lemongrass/sage candles. Wendy has all kinds of neat stuff in candles, soap, lotions etc. We are looking forward to getting more for our next event.

Our dogs were a hit as well. Baloo with foster mom and dad, Brandy and Joey were there. Baloo was so sweet, he walked up to people and happily introduced himself. What a guy! Wendy and John, and the infamous Jett were there. I had a long talk with Jett about his running away, he didn't seem to care. Wendy and John have done a great job with this guy, he was so calm. We have some people interested. Our beloved Ebbon was there, with Linda and the family. She was also a favorite. She is so calm and receptive to people. Excellent job Linda. Olive was quite the little lovebug. People went nuts for her. She is such a showoff. Duffy stopped by with Vicki and the Hunts. He is so handsome. Sharon and her sister also stopped by. We were so happy to see them. Sharon always brings us a bag of goodies. Thanks so much girl. Of course Jeanette was there promoting the breed. She brought some gorgeous scarves for Halloween. We missed you Kathy and Ringo, Please get better fast.

Thanks to everyone who joined us. It was so nice to see you all again. Can't wait til November. Love, Sue

Responsible Dog Ownership Event - Tampa, FL - 09/04/10

Special Events Center - Florida State Fairgrounds
Sponsored by the Tampa Bay Kennel Club

What a great FSPR turnout we had. Volunteers came from as far away as Jacksonville & Miami. We had Brady, Jasmine, Ebbon, Minka, Mojo, Ringo, Bonnie, Sasha, Jenna & Tebow. The puppies enjoyed seeing each other and took right up with their energetic playing. Jimi & Linda were here from Jacksonville, Veronika & Alex drove up from Miami and Pat from Leesburg. Locals included Sue & Dave, Jeanette, Linda, Christine, Kathy & Michelle. We also had the younger generation there enjoying the puppies. Gail stopped by with her puppy and Florence came by with Sherman. We also got to meet Mandy and her husband from St Cloud and look forward to them joining our group. The public attendance was not that great but it was a holiday weekend. However, we enjoy every chance we can to promote the breed and we definitely had some beauties there. Thank you to everyone for attending. We definitely had the best dressed booth.

Tampa Spring Adoption Expo - Tampa, FL - 04/24/10

Special Events Center - Florida State Fairgrounds
Sponsored by the ASPCA, the Humane Society of Tampa Bay
and No More Homeless Pets – Hillsborough County

The setting was for a battle of the Parrotheads vs the Chinese as we decorated our booth at the Tampa Adopt-A-Thon. It was Jimmy Buffet weekend at the Tampa Fairgrounds so traffic was heavy driving into the event. But FSPR stayed true to their heritage and decorated with our Chinese décor. Jeanette and Pat had help from Kashmere and Minka and their 2 legged siblings getting set-up. Michelle brought darling Dixie who was a perfect angel throughout the day. Christine brought Jasmine for a short time to show her off. And it was a big day for Lucy Lu as she met her new daddy. Candace drove her all the way from the east coast to for her big adoption day. We met some great prospective families and hope to be hearing from them soon. Thank you everyone for your time and effort and also to the ASPCA Humane Society of Tampa Bay both for the invitation and to their great volunteers who constantly came by to see if we needed anything!

"MUTT-STRUT" Honeymoon Island - Dunedin, FL - 03/20/10

The FIRST day of Spring was the ideal day for a great dog event at the beautiful Honeymoon Island State Park in Dunedin. Being a dog friendly park, there were as many dogs attending the event as there were people. About 40 vendors were there for the benefit of the Pinellas County Humane Society including FSPR. Baloo was the FSPR mascot and adoptable dog in attendance and his friendliness amazed everyone. He enjoyed all the head rubs and especially enjoyed the children who petted him. Little Fiona stopped by with her foster family to wow the spectators and this little princess enjoyed playing with a few puppies who came by. It was a great social events for both volunteers and pei-bies.

"Central Florida Adoption Day" - The Villages, FL - 12/12/09

The World’s Friendliest Retirement Village went to the dogs Saturday as 12 rescue groups gathered at the Buffalo Ridge Animal Hospital to show off their adoptable dogs. In addition to our great volunteers, Sue & Dave, Linda & her family, Jeanette and Mojo and Susan and her family, we had terrific help from our local sponsor and mom to FSPR rescue pup Sadie, Joan Kolins, who owns the pet boutique, Paws for a Moment. She was on hand to help with questions on natural food and treats and was seen crawling around the x-pen with the pup-peis. Nala and Taffy and Lissie were there looking for their new homes. We had some interest in them and also sold some items. All in all, it was another beautiful day at The Villages and FSPR wants to thank Ann for inviting us.
